Herbie Hancock Austin City Limits Poster

A giant of the jazz world and genre-bending pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock, just performed at ACL Live in Austin, TX, and we were honored to create a poster for the show. We were inspired by the intergalactic vibe of Herbie’s early work, as well as the setting of the venue in Texas hill country.

The poster is a four-color 18” x 24” screen print on 100 lb. Classic Crest Cream paper, with a limited edition of 300 prints. Check out our initial sketch of the poster below, along with close-up photos of the finished prints, as well as a video documenting our process of designing the poster. The Herbie Hancock ACL Live poster is now available in the DKNG Store

St. Paul & The Broken Bones 2017 Tour Poster

One of our favorite bands, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, just wrapped up their tour of the West Coast, and in addition to catching their incredible Portland and San Francisco shows in person, we were thrilled to design the poster for the tour. We were inspired by the powerful, often spiritual energy of the band, and created an epic, flaming pipe organ that might be at home in the band’s collection of instruments.

The poster is an 18” x 24” two color screen print on 12pt Mirri gold foil paper with an edition size of 550. Check out the metallic shine of the gold paper in the photos below, along with our initial concept sketch and a video documenting our design process. The St. Paul & The Broken Bones tour poster is now available in the DKNG Store

Callaway Open Championship Poster

Callaway is one of the leading golf product companies in the world and their athletes are also leading the way, with Callaway pro Henrik Stenson winning The Open Championship in 2016. For the 2017 Open, we worked with Callaway to create a commemorative poster celebrating Henrik’s win as he prepares to defend his title. The posters made their way to The Open at Royal Birkdale where Henrik signed a few copies that will soon be sent to the lucky winners of Callaway’s giveaway.

The poster is an 18” x 24" five color screen print on French Kraft-Tone Index Off-white 100lb paper. Check out our initial sketch of the poster below along with a process video, and some coverage of Henrik himself with the prints.

Our New Skillshare Class: Illustrating An Icon Set

We're excited to share our latest Skillshare.com class which is now live! In this class you'll learn to design a cohesive icon series, inspired by your favorite movies. The idea behind the class was sparked by our poster celebrating Paramount Pictures’ 100th Anniversary, in which we designed 100 unique icons representing a movie from each year of the studio's history.

From sketching and concept development to final execution, we'll share how to distill complex subject matter into recognizable small-scale designs. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use reference imagery to simplify a complex subject into a single image
  • Create a limited color palette that works across a series
  • Establish design rules to ensure consistency across your image set

From small-scale projects like buttons and pins to professional branding work where consistency is key, students will leave this class with an arsenal of design tools to utilize again and again. This class joins more than 10,000 classes on Skillshare, an online learning community where anyone can discover, enroll, or even teach a class in design, entrepreneurship, and more.

Almanac San Francisco Taproom Murals

Eater.com / Patricia Chang

DKNG recently had the opportunity to take on a project that was a first for us…mural design. The challenge was to develop a multi-panel mural for Almanac Beer Co.’s new San Francisco taproom that tied into their existing brand, while also complimenting the new space without overpowering it. The solution turned out to be two separate murals - a large abstract mural featuring the Almanac logo, and a smaller, more detailed mural, featuring an isometric cityscape that incorporated both the Mission district of San Francisco where the taproom is located, along with existing Almanac branding and iconography from their fresh beer series. The murals also incorporate the color palette of the space including the natural wood tones of the bar and seating as well as the blue-gray tones of the hand-finished plaster walls.

Check out our initial sketches for the murals below along with photos of the finished taproom. We also created a time-lapse process video of the awesome team from New Bohemia Signs painting the murals by hand. Their team of four sign painters spent six long days hand painting every inch of the murals! The Almanac San Francisco Taproom is now open at 2704 24th Street.

Van Morrison Las Vegas, NV Poster

This past weekend, Van Morrison played two sold out shows at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and as long time fans, we were honored to create the official gig poster for the event. We were inspired by the vintage neon signs that have lined the Las Vegas strip, and created Van’s own custom sign. The entire edition of posters is printed on metallic rainbow foil which gives the neon and lightbulbs in the sign a convincing shimmer when viewed in person.

The poster is an 18” x 24” three color screen print on 10pt Rainbow Foil with an edition size of 400. Check out our initial concept sketch below along with close up photos of the finished print, and a process video documenting the design and printing of the poster. Thanks to our friends at Monolith Press for the stellar print job. The Van Morrison Las Vegas poster is now available in the DKNG Store.

Polar Bears Art Print Benefiting NRDC

In the spirit of holiday giving and protecting our planet, we’re excited to announce our new Polar Bears art print benefiting the National Resources Defense Council. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the print will be donated to NRDC, which works to safeguard the earth—its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action group, combining the power of more than two million members and online activists with the expertise of some 500 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild.

The print itself is an 11” x 14” two-color screen print using two split-fountains on 100lb off-white recycled paper. The print is a timed edition which ends at 11:59pm on Sunday, November 27. The number of prints that sell in that time period will dictate the edition size of the print. All prints will be signed and numbered by DKNG. For orders made within the United States, every effort will be made for the prints to ship and arrive prior to Christmas, pending the final edition size. Please keep in mind orders shipped outside the United States will take longer to deliver, but should arrive by January 2017. Check out our initial sketch and process video of the print being designed below.
