Bison Art Print

For those that caught a glimpse of our most recent Skillshare.com class, Illustration for Designers, we took a step by step look at our process of illustrating a geometrically styled animal. We chose to illustrate a Bison face for the class, and that illustration is now available as an art print in the DKNG store. Bison is a 16” x 20” three-color art print on 100 lb. French Speckletone Cream paper. The print marks the introduction to our new line of smaller, 16” x 20” art prints that are the perfect size for any wall. Bison is also our first print to combine both halftone dots and dither dots in a single print for a unique combination of textures. Check out our initial sketch below as well as closeup photos of the new printing method. You can learn about the process behind the print and how to create your own geometric animal at Skillshare.com

Doritos Art Print

Last year we had the privilege of working on a project for one of America’s most beloved brands…Doritos. The team at Doritos was looking for a fun way to thank their loyal fans throughout the country, and tapped DKNG to make a limited edition Doritos themed art print that would be sent out to their select group of product testers. The print features a vintage Doritos delivery truck navigating an environment made entirely of Doritos products. The print is a five color screen print on French Speckletone Madero Beach. The print is sadly not available for sale to the public, but you can check out our process video of the making of the print as well as our initial sketch and close up photos below.

The Dark Knight Tumbler Poster

2014 marked the 75th Anniversary of Batman, and we were thrilled to create an official poster for Mondo and DC Comics to commemorate a more recent addition to the Batman universe: the Tumbler. Despite its military appearance, the new incarnation of the Batmobile actually has its roots in the 1950s television version of the Batmobile, according to Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley. The two vehicles share similar features including tail fins and a rear jet engine. The Tumbler in the print is at home in the Dark Knight’s ultra-modern Batcave.

The Tumbler is a 24” x 18” two color screen print on French Speckletone Madero Beach paper and is available in a super limited artist edition of 50 posters. Check out a few closeup images of the finished print below as well as our initial concept sketch. The Tumbler will be available in the DKNG store on Monday, January 12, 2015 at a random time.

ICON: 50 New Works by DKNG

We’re excited to announce a new series of work that’s been a few years in the making. On June 14, 2014, we opened our first ever solo show in Los Angeles at Gallery 1988 West. ICON is comprised of fifty 12” x 12” screen printed representations of iconic objects from some of our favorite films and tv shows. Each icon is a four color screen print with an edition size of 100 prints. The entire series goes on sale on July 15 in the DKNG store.

For a further description of the show, Peter Sciretta of /Film sums it up nicely:

"Every film has one. A signature prop, set, or location. Something that, in a single image, can represent the entire movie. The design team of Dan Kuhlken and Nathan Goldman, also known as DKNG, call these images “Icons,” and they are the subject of their first ever solo show at Gallery 1988 West in Los Angeles.

The show, called simply ICON, is comprised of 50 pieces featuring iconic places and things from some of your favorite movies and TV shows of all time. Each piece is small – 12 inches square – and is of one thing that sums up an entire movie. And of course, each is done in DKNG’s distinctive bright, geometric yet detailed style.”

Electric City Art Print

In May of 2013, we created a poster for Dave Matthews Band for their show in Scranton, Pennsylvania, paying homage to the city’s moniker, “The Electric City”.  We went for a semi-literal interpretation of that name by creating a skyline comprised of varying sizes and shapes of lightbulbs, while also including some of the city’s historic landmarks.  Seasoned Scranton historians will recognize the first-of-its-kind electric trolley system as well as the famed “Electric City” rooftop sign.

We’re now pleased to introduce the Electric City art print which is an 18″ x 24″, four color screen print on French Construction Blacktop paper.  The print is now available online in the DKNG Store.  Check out a few close-up photos of the poster below as well as our initial sketch of the concept.  You can also learn more about Scranton, PA in the video below.

As promised, we are pleased to announce the release of our latest art print, 'Dive Bar'.  Based on our recent Alpine Valley gig poster for Dave Matthews Band, Dive Bar depicts a mystical watering hole hidden deep within the Wisconsin forest.  With a bar fashioned out of the giant husk of a tree trunk and fully stocked shelves, we’ll leave it up to the viewer to imagine who might have stopped by to quench their thirst.

The print is an 18″ x 24″ three color screen print on French Speckletone Starch Mint.  Check out a few close up photos of the print below including a few enhancements we made to the ink colors and contrast in the design.  Dive Bar is now available in the DKNG Store.
