The National Los Angeles, CA Posters

We’re excited to share our latest posters for The National, for their recent pair of shows at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Our work for The National over the years has focused on aerial views of various locations, and for their stop in LA, we knew we had to illustrate a labyrinth of freeways. For the two nights of shows, we created a diptych with the maze of ramps and streets spanning both posters.

The National posters are 18” x 24” four-color screen prints on 105 lb Stardream Silver cover stock, with a signed and numbered artist edition of 100 prints for each night. We also have a very limited number of uncut 36” x 24” poster sets. The National Los Angeles posters will go on sale at 10am PST on Monday, September 24 in the DKNG Store.

Leon Bridges Los Angeles, CA Poster

One of our favorites, Leon Bridges, came through Los Angeles on his current tour and we were happy to create the official poster for his show at the historic Greek Theatre. Leon has a signature, vintage aesthetic that we attempted to capture in the scene of a midcentury California fuel station.

The poster is a 24” x 18” 5-color screen print which includes a split-fountain blend in the sky. It’s printed on French Paper Co. Kraft-Tone Index Off-White 100lb cover stock, with a limited artist edition of 50 prints. Check out close up photos of the print below, along with our initial concept sketch and a process video of the poster’s creation. The Leon Bridges Los Angeles poster will be available in the DKNG Store on Monday, September 17, at 10am PST.

Jack White California Posters

Jack White is currently touring the US in support of his new album, Boarding House Reach, and we were happy to take on the poster duties for three of his California shows. For his first night in San Francisco, we did our take on a classic rusted-out hull of a car, set ablaze with Jack White blue flames. For night two in SF, we were inspired by Jack’s lyrics, combining a leather boot along with three birds lacing it up. Lastly, for Jack’s stop in Bakersfield, we took on a set of traditional locks and keys, with some Jack reference hidden throughout their decorative inlays.

Each poster in the series is an 18” x 24” three-color screen print on Classic Crest Epic Black 100 lb cover stock, with signed and numbered editions of 420 for each of the San Francisco shows, and 291 for the Bakersfield show. Check out our initial sketches below along with closeup photos of each print, as well as process videos for SF Night 2 and Bakersfield. All three Jack White posters go on sale in the DKNG store on Tuesday, August 21, at 9am Pacific Time.

2018 Newport Folk Festival Poster

The historic Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island has been taking place since 1959, so we were honored to create the official poster for the 2018 edition of the festival. The festival is very much a product of its picturesque environment, and we were inspired by nearby landmarks like the Goat Island Lighthouse and the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge, along with a few fantastical elements added in to capture the magical nature of the festival.

The poster is an 18” x 24” three color screen print on 100lb Cougar Natural cover stock with a signed and numbered edition of 1,050 (only 50 of which are available online). Check out our initial sketch of the poster below along with close up photos of the finished print. The 2018 Newport Folk Festival Poster will be available today (Monday, July 30th) at 12pm PST in the DKNG Store while supplies last.

Almanac Beer Co. Brewery Mural

Of all the Almanac Beer Co. projects we’ve had the pleasure of taking on, perhaps the most exciting has been getting to create a large-scale mural for their new brewery in Alameda, CA. Almanac’s founders asked us to create an isometric scene (similar to our previous can illustrations) that was evocative of a map of the bay area, bridging their two homes of San Francisco and Alameda, while also infusing the design with lots of little easter eggs, paying tribute to some of their favorite pop culture icons. See if you can spot them all including Ren & Stimpy, Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Rick & Morty, Monty Python, and Firefly.

The mural itself is a 40’ x 17’ behemoth, installed by the great team at Sterling Graphics in San Francisco. After considering both hand-painted and decal applications, the shear size and detail of the artwork led to the wallpaper style decal approach as the best option. You can see a video of the installation process below, along with our initial sketch and photo of the finished artwork, but we highly recommend stopping by the brewery to enjoy the mural in-person, paired with a cold pint.

The Decemberists 2018 Tour Poster

The Decemberists are back on the road with their Your Girl/Your Ghost World Tour 2018 and we were excited to take on tour poster duties for the first U.S. leg of the tour. We were inspired by girly/ghostly imagery coupled with the surreal look of their most recent album and music videos. In addition to the main tour poster, we also created a color variant version for the tour’s VIP attendees.

Each poster is an 18” x 24” four color screen print on Cougar Natural 100lb cover stock, with signed and numbered editions of 900 for the tour poster and 2,050 for the VIP poster. Check out our initial concept sketch below along with close-up photos of the finished prints, as well as a video documenting our process of designing the poster. The Decemberists tour poster is now available in the DKNG Store.

Van Morrison Los Angeles, CA Poster

One of our favorite artists, Van Morrison, is back on the road this year, and we had the privilege of creating a poster for his two-night stop in Los Angeles. We had fun with the Vegas poster we created for Van during his 2017 tour, and decided to add to the series with a Southern California themed neon sign, also printed on metallic rainbow foil.

The poster is an 18” x 24” three color screen print on 10pt Rainbow Foil with a signed and numbered edition of 275. Check out our initial concept sketch below along with close up photos of the finished print, and a process video documenting the design of the poster. The Van Morrison Los Angeles poster is now available in the DKNG Store.

Almanac Beer Co. Nectarine Cobbler

Almanac Beer Co.’s new Nectarine Cobbler is packed with fruit flavor, so we found it only fitting that a larger than life nectarine should take center stage in our latest label design for the brewery. Almanac prides itself on using fresh produce from local farmers so we were inspired to create an Almanac-centric farm where agriculture and brewing come together. Nectarine Cobbler is a sour blonde ale aged in oak barrels with nectarines, peaches, and spices.

Nectarine Cobbler is now available at the Almanac Taproom in San Francisco, the new Almanac Brewery in Alameda, and available throughout the country wherever finer beers are sold.

From Almanac:

“Nectarine Cobbler is our version of dessert in a glass. We started with yellow nectarines from Blossom Bluff Orchards, grown in high-summer along the banks of King’s River in California’s Central Valley. Four pounds of juicy stone fruit was added to each gallon of sour blonde ale and aged in oak barrels. We spiced the blend with cinnamon, ginger, coriander, and vanilla bean to recall the aroma of a freshly baked nectarine cobbler resting on the windowsill. Pair this autumn delight with mom’s baked desserts, Indian curries, and holiday gatherings.”

Almanac Beer Co. Peach Galaxy

The much anticipated fruit forward brother of Almanac’s Tropical Galaxy is here, and we were honored to put a peachy spin on the packaging! Peach Galaxy is a dry-hopped sour farmhouse ale aged in oak barrels with peaches and spices. The Almanac galaxy series of beers inspired us to pursue a 1960s sci-fi style of illustration, and this new twist on the label includes plenty of new peach inspired touches as well as a new peach color scheme. You can check out our original Tropical Galaxy label here.

Peach Galaxy is now available at the Almanac Taproom in San Francisco, the new Almanac Brewery in Alameda, and available throughout the country wherever finer beers are sold.

From Almanac:

“Peach Galaxy is an intergalactic flavor odyssey! This stellar brew started with a blend of farmhouse Brettanomyces ales fermented with our house sour culture and aged in oak barrels. Next, 6,000 lbs of organic yellow peaches from Blossom Bluff Orchards in Northern California were added to the barrels to mature for several months. The beer was finished with a touch of coriander and a heavy cosmic dry-hop of Galaxy and Citra. The finished beer has an IPA-style aroma, backed by tart peach skin flavors and hints of gummy rings. Pair this out-of-this-world elixir with grilled ribs, ceviche, and peach coffee cake.”
