New Black Hops Brewery Packaging

As beer lovers we’re always excited for an opportunity to work with breweries, so when Australia’s own Black Hops reached out to us with the challenge of rebranding their core line of beers, we were thrilled.

The Black Hops story starts in 2014 when three mates on Australia’s Gold Coast decided to join forces to turn their home brewing hobby into a full-fledged brewery. When Black Hops introduced their core line of cans, they instituted a system in which they could mass produce a single can design, and apply paper strip labels to customize the design for each beer they brewed.

While the system was an efficient solution for a growing brewery, the team eventually outgrew it, and turned to us a for solution to integrate the current brand and labeling system into a new line. The new core line of cans would still appear on shelves alongside their paper label counterparts, so the family would need to be cohesive, while also breathing new life, and brand recognition into the new design system.

Working with the existing brand assets, we introduced a two-tone layout with larger, color coded identifiers for a quicker read on shelves for each beer varietal, with the Black Hops trademark chevron and mesh motifs coming along for the ride. The freshly minted core line is now available throughout Australia. Thanks to the Black Hops team for including us in this exciting project!
