William James Murray Art Print

Gallery 1988 kindly invited us to be an exhibiting artist in their latest group art show “Please Post Bills“, a tribute to comedic legend Bill Murray. Being big fans of Murray’s work, it was a difficult task deciding upon our favorite movie to feature as an art print, so we came up with the concept of creating one that represented his entire body of work in film.

We created individual icons that represent each film in the simplest, most conceptual way we could think of, listed from his most recent 2010 film ”Passion Play” to his very first, “Shame of the Jungle” from 1975. Each icon is paired with the year in which the film was made. Feel free to take a close look by scrolling over the image above and see how many you can figure out. If you get stumped at any point we provided the title of each film at the bottom of the print.

The print is an 18″x24″ four color screen print and has a limited edition of 200. A limited amount are available now on Gallery 1988’s site. We will be releasing our allotment of prints in our online store in the coming week or so. Be sure to follow our social networks or join our mailing for when we announce the official release date. Gallery 1988’s Crazy 4 Cult gets ‘BIG’

Over the past couple years, we’ve had the opportunity to participate in several exciting shows and projects at Gallery 1988. This year, we were thrilled to participate in what is arguably their marquee exhibition: Crazy 4 Cult. Crazy 4 Cult is a celebration of cult film through art prints, paintings, sculptures, and a variety of other art pieces.

After creating a list of some of our favorite cult and childhood films, we arrived at Big, which coincidentally was released in 1988. After re-watching the film, we determined that the iconic scene of Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia performing Heart and Soul on the FAO Schwartz giant piano had to be the focus of our print. We decided to put our own spin on the point of view, and approached the print with a bird’s eye view of the piano, creating the composition as a diptych with one panel dedicated to each character.

The prints are each 24″ x 9″ and are available both framed and unframed in our store. There are 5 ink colors, the last of which is a glow-in-the-dark ink that lights up the white keys when viewed in the dark (rollover the images above to see an example). I ran across this film on Hulu and was first drawn to the thumbnail of Zach Galifianakis dressed up like George Washington. What I walked into was something completely different than the comedy I was expecting. The movie is beautifully written and shot. It’s dark humor goes along side films such as “I ♥ Huckabees” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind”. If you liked Adam Sandler in “Punch Drunk Love” and Will Ferrell in “Stranger than Fiction” then I think you will love Zach’s performance in Visioneers. Enjoy.

If you are one of those people that had an emotional connection with Wilson from Cast Away, you will love this short film by Jesse Rosten. For an activity so deeply rooted in videography, there’s a surprising lack of aesthetic experimentation in skateboarding, methinks. Runner-up for LA’s Skate Film Festival Liam Mitchell has the right idea with his short film “Wizard Smoke”. I would have loved to be at the concept meeting for this film…”How about we cover everything in chalk and make it slow motion?” “Ok!”
