IFC’s Portlandia recently invited us to be a participating artist in a poster series for their upcoming Season 2 release. We graciously accepted the honor of creating a poster for the first episode entitled “Mixology” .

In “Mixology” Fred helps Carrie chase a romantic mixologist (Andy Samberg) who forgets his roots when he moves from Portland to LA. As a thank you for mixing her the best cocktail of her life, Carrie decides to create the mixologist a mix tape. Our intention with this poster design was to capture the essence of Portlandia while telling a little bit about the episode itself.

These posters were used for promotional purposes only so unfortunately we will not be selling any in our store. However, you can download a free desktop picture of the image from IFC.

For any poster artist, creating work for the legendary band Phish is an honor. Being asked to create our fifth poster for them was exciting enough. Making it for their annual New Year’s Eve Run, a four night concert series held at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City, was jaw dropping to say the least.

We created two color variants of the poster, each with an edition of 700. We will be selling a very limited amount of each poster in our online store starting on New Year’s Eve. Below is a process video for the design along with the original sketch and some close up shots of the actual print.

Calling all artists! The Say Something Poster Project is accepting submissions to their season 2 poster design competition until midnight December 31st EST.

Will your poster be the dark horse submission to come through late in the game? Votes have started to accumulate but it’s never too late. The best posters always prevail and the best designers know how to make their work stand out.

We’re excited to see what you can do, but most importantly, kids at the Blue Hills Boys and Girls Club are rooting for you!

This summer, a rare opportunity fell into our laps. We were asked to set the tone, both visually and literally, for a national poster design competition directed at inspiring youth.

Together with The Say Something Poster Project we developed the theme for this year’s competition, This Way Forward, which asks you to consider the last 2 to 5 years and “say something” to help prepare the next generation for the future.

We created the branding, Call for Entries and entire web presence. At this point you’re probably saying “Hey DKNG, how did you do all that and still crank out awesome posters?!” The answer is simple: time is always an issue but it is never an excuse.

We’re sharing this with you now because we believe the better art and design submitted, the more successful the campaign will be. And the nice thing about this project is that winning posters are donated to a non-profit organization and permanently installed in their facility. Which means the best work goes to those that need it most. This year, posters will be donated to The Boys & Girls Club.

The competition is free to enter and offers some really cool prizes. Or course, we know why you design and it’s the same reason we got involved – to make a difference.

We’re pleased to announce that Jeff Ratto, long time friend and collaborator, will now be a contributing member of the DKNG blog.  Jeff is currently the principal at Ratto Design in Monterey, California, an agency specializing in the design of brand identities, logos, print collateral, websites and mobile applications.  Ratto Design and DKNG often collaborate on design projects (a few examples included below), so it was a natural step to include Jeff as an active contributor to the blog.  If you haven’t checked out Jeff’s first blog post on the topic of action sports filmmaking, it’s a must see.  Please join me in welcoming Jeff to the blog and stay tuned for future posts.

We just added some new shirts to our store. The first design is entitled “Warrior.” It’s a cross between Mexican skull candy and Native American art. The girl shirts are available in v-necks which is a first for us.

The second design is a reprint of our classic Lion, but printed on a sage colored shirt with a different color scheme.
